In a short DIY video, Barbara shows how you can easily make your own dip dye candles.
Candles with a trendy dip dye look
Making your own dip dye candles is very easy. All you need are white stick candles and fat-soluble wax dyes. By dipping a candle to different depths in wax dyes, you can create a special colour gradient from light to dark, creating beautiful individual pieces that you can enjoy yourself or give as a unique light as a gift.
That's what it takes:
- Paraffin in pastilles
- Fat-soluble wax colours
- White candles
in various shapes
- Wide pan
- Several jam jars
or tin cans
- Stirring rods
- Flat nose pliers
- Household paper
- Covering material
- Gratin mould
- approx. 3 cm – 5 cm long screw
- Potholder

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1
Fill the paraffin pastilles into the jars/tins.
Step 2
Place the jars/tins in the pan, pour in the water and heat the hob (the water should not boil).
Step 3
Melt the wax (optimum wax temperature: 75 degrees).
Step 4
Stir in the wax colour.
Step 5
Cut a stick candle into small pieces and dip them into the liquid wax to test the colour intensity. Tip: do not stir the wax firmly before dipping the candles in, as bubbles will form.
Step 6
Dip the pillar candles in the colours to taste. By dipping the candles to different depths in wax colours, you can create a special colour gradient from light to dark.
Variant for ball, egg or cylinder candles
To dip ball, egg or cylinder candles, pour the liquid wax into an aluminium baking tin so that you have more space for dipping. Screw a screw into the bottom of the candles so that you can hold them better. Grip the wick with one pair of pliers and the screw with the other hand so that you can dip the candles from the side.
